 About The Author

Wiel Baaten

Born and raised in Limburg, the Netherlands, Wiel got a bachelor’s degree in Surveying (HTS Utrecht) in 1986. He had worked for an engineering company for three years, when he and his future wife both quit their jobs and set out for a year-long journey through South East Asia. Shortly after they returned to the Netherlands, Wiel was offered a position as computer programmer with a consulting firm near Utrecht. He accepted the challenge and remained with the company for five years.

Longing for less urbanized space they decided to immigrate to Canada and arrived in Vancouver (BC) in 1994, together with their four year old son. Within four months they moved to Edmonton (Alberta), where Wiel worked as a computer programmer. In 2009 he moved to Kelowna (BC), were he works as a translator.

Writing has been a hobby of Wiel since High School. In 2004 he felt confident enough to write a novel in the English language, as opposed to short stories in Dutch. Hesitant about the quality of his writings, which was extensively edited by his wife, he handed his manuscript to a number of friends and colleagues. Amazingly the majority of the reactions he received were positive and constructive. After implementing some of the suggested changes and numerous reviews of the manuscript, he decided to self-publish the book.
